OAK PARK ARTS DISTRICT SUMMER CAMP JUNE 2011

I just completed a second year, teaching at; The Oak Park Arts District June Summer Camp. The camp takes place in a variety of art studios and businesses on Harrison Street. The two weeks provide kids the opportunity to expand their art skills with professional artists through dance and movement, mixed-media, glasswork, beading, painting, culinary arts, fiber arts, print-making, yoga and more. I taught at WHISPERS FROM THE MOON, a wonderful, magical "secret" cottage run by my friend, Lisa Source Schmitz.

CAMILLE'S BIRTHDAY PRESENT

Prior to the closing of WINDY CITY SCRAPBOOKING's store on Clybourn, I spent days there using the Accucut Die cutting machine. I now have a supply of these pages to create books!!! I also purchased the CINCH bookbinding machine, which creates the cool wire binders. I'll soon be selling one of a kind journals, like this one, on an ESTY store.

The Sun In Art..... Happy Summer Solstice!

HERE ARE A FEW EXAMPLES OF HOW THE SUN AS BEEN PORTRAYED IN ART THROUGH OUT THE AGES:

This relief from the Great Palace at Amarna depicts Akhenaten's worship of Aten, the light within the sun's disk.

Miro would often use the sun/star shape as a way of beginning a painting or drawing.

OPDAC: GRAFFITI STYLE ART: create your own!

We will be creating our own graffiti & street art paintings (not on buildings.) But we will be inspired by the scratched, scrawled, curving, inventive, colorful lines and shapes used to create this art.  Working on large paper with a variety of materials, we will create images worthy of any brick wall in the city!
Graffiti has excited since ancient times with examples going back to ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. who know maybe the cave paintings were even the very first tags. There is something very human about street art, it screams “I AM HERE!”
The work its very immediate both
in its production and often its topics.
The controversy is: it is vandalism or art?
 What do you think?

USE THE FOLLOWING LINK TO CREATE YOU OWN TAGS.
YOU CHOOSE THE STYLE, COLOR, BACKGROUND AND EFFECTS:
